ירמיהו, פרק י״ג, פסוק ח׳

A new revelation arrives to clarify the mysterious imagery the prophet has experienced up to this point. In this fourth divine communication, God uncovers the true meaning behind the parable of the belt [אברבנאל, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

The explanation draws a direct parallel between the physical object and the spiritual state of the nation. Just as the belt was ruined, the great pride of the people of Judah and Jerusalem will be destroyed. This punishment will come upon them because they refused to listen to God. Instead, they followed the stubbornness of their own evil hearts and worshiped foreign gods. As a result of these actions, the people will become completely useless, sharing the exact fate of the ruined belt [אברבנאל].
