איוב, פרק כ״ב, פסוק כ״ז

Job 22:27Sefaria

תַּעְתִּ֣יר אֵ֭לָיו וְיִשְׁמָעֶ֑ךָּ וּנְדָרֶ֥יךָ תְשַׁלֵּֽם׃

A profound level of closeness between humanity and God is realized when a person can reach out in prayer and experience a complete, answering response. This direct connection allows individuals to fulfill both their spiritual obligations and their deepest life aspirations. Turning to God in prayer is not merely a brief request, but an expansive and abundant conversation [מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ, אלשיך]. When a person initiates this connection, God draws His presence intimately close just to listen [מלבי״ם]. God grants the individual the time to speak at length without interruption, simply because He loves and desires to hear their voice. In fact, God treasures this deep personal dialogue even more than the bringing of physical sacrifices [אלשיך].

The natural result of such accepted prayer is the fulfillment of personal commitments. It was a common practice to make conditional promises to God during moments of distress, pledging an offering in exchange for salvation. The primary approach among commentators is that this dynamic serves as a guarantee of rescue. God will fulfill the desires of your heart and deliver you from trouble, leading directly to the joyous moment where you can actually fulfill those promises [רמב״ן, מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ, מלבי״ם].

Beyond the physical act of fulfilling a pledge, there is an added spiritual assurance that the offerings brought will be received by God with love and deep favor [רש״י]. Taking a broader perspective, this fulfillment of promises can also be understood as a symbol of complete practical success. It is an assurance that whatever efforts you make in life will not be blocked, and you will successfully achieve all your intended goals [רלב״ג].
