A profound promise of spiritual and practical power awaits those who return to God. A striking contrast emerges between human pride and genuine humility, revealing the remarkable ability of a righteous person to shape reality and influence the world around them.

The primary approach among commentators views this dynamic as a testament to the power of a righteous person's prayer and decree. If Job witnesses people who have fallen into deep despair and lowliness, he will be able to confidently promise them a future of greatness and elevation. God will then fulfill his words, stepping in to save those miserable individuals whose eyes are cast downward in distress [רש״י, מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This concept reaches a supernatural level, suggesting that a righteous person's power is so immense that their mere words can elevate angels who have fallen from heaven. Through the merit of just one humble individual, a righteous person can even save an entire city [אלשיך].

However, other scholars offer a completely different perspective, focusing instead on God's moral guidance of the world. In this view, when wicked people are brought low and fall, Job will declare that their own pride was the direct cause of their ruin. In stark contrast, God will bring salvation specifically to the pure and modest person who walks with their eyes lowered in humility [רמב״ן, אבן עזרא, תקות אנוש].

Adding another layer of meaning, the focus shifts inward to personal spiritual growth. If a person finds that their habits and actions have sunk into low, material pursuits, they are challenged to command themselves to rise to a higher spiritual state. The moment a person abandons arrogance, limits their physical desires, and turns their eyes away from the false illusions of the material world, they will earn spiritual salvation from God.
