One perspective views the record as listing four entirely separate cities: Hazor, Hadattah, Kerioth, and Hezron [מצודת דוד]. A different approach understands the first two names as a single location meaning New Hazor. This title was given to distinguish the newly established town from an older, existing city that shared the same name [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

The geographical record also clarifies that the city of Hezron is simply another name for a place called Hazor. This specific location was already noted earlier when the broader borders of Judah were first outlined [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. To prevent confusion among similarly named places, it is important to recognize that this Hezron-Hazor stands completely on its own.
