Following a large assembly where the Israelites gathered to hear the final words of their leader, the time came for the nation to disperse. Everything spoken up to this point occurred while the people were united together under Joshua's command.
With his address now complete, Joshua dismissed the crowd, allowing everyone to go their separate ways. Because the entire land had already been successfully divided among the tribes by this stage, every person was able to travel back directly to his own specifically designated property and settle into his permanent home [אברבנאל].
