Joshua 24:5Sefaria

During the historical review of the Israelites' journey, the story of redemption from Egypt unfolds through distinct stages, beginning with the selection of leaders and culminating in freedom. God chose Moses and Aaron as the most fitting messengers for this great mission [מלבי״ם]. Through them, He brought a series of plagues upon Egypt This was not a single, isolated strike, but a continuous sequence of signs and wonders performed deep within the country, designed specifically so that the Egyptians would recognize God's absolute power and might [רד״ק, מלבי״ם]. These dramatic events are intimately familiar to the Israelites, deeply ingrained in their minds either from their own personal memories or from the accounts passed down by their fathers

Although God used messengers, this process was fundamentally an expression of His direct love and involvement with His people. The presence of Moses and Aaron does not imply that God acted only through mediators from a distance. Rather, the plagues initiated by these messengers were entirely God's direct actions, carrying the exact same divine force as the plagues He executed Himself without any human involvement [אלשיך].

The primary approach among commentators is that only after this entire sequence of wonders concluded did God finally lead the Israelites out of Egypt However, a unique perspective reveals a hidden miracle regarding the specific generation that was brought out. During the bitter enslavement, Israelite babies were born in the fields and hidden in underground tunnels to protect them from harsh Egyptian decrees. In those dark spaces, God personally cared for and raised them. Once Moses and Aaron completed their role with the plague of darkness, God brought these hidden children out from the earth. God speaks directly to the people standing before Him because the majority of the generation about to enter the land were those very children. They were miraculously saved, witnessed God at the sea, and finally arrived to inherit the land of Israel [אלשיך].
