Although a leader named Nehemiah is also listed among them, this refers to a different individual and not the famous figure for whom the biblical book is named [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

When introducing the broader census of the returning Israelites, the record specifically notes the men of the people. In biblical usage, this description frequently denotes importance and elevated status, indicating that the tally highlights the respected and significant figures within the nation. The author focused on the accuracy of the final, overarching number of the assembly, and therefore did not strictly align every minor detail of the smaller, individual calculations [רש״י].
