As the Israelites moved through the desert, they passed through numerous regions that share similar names but are entirely distinct. One such stop took place in the Wilderness of Sin. While the name sounds nearly identical to the famous Wilderness of Sinai, it is a completely separate geographic area. This specific location sits along the travel route between Elim and Mount Sinai. The fact that these are two different places becomes clear as the journey continues. Later on, a completely separate encampment is recorded in the Wilderness of Sinai, which only occurred after the Israelites traveled from Rephidim [רבנו בחיי].
