Continuing their march, the Israelites pass through the sea and head toward the wilderness [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. The geographical details of this crossing reveal a fascinating aspect of the event. They entered the water from the desert and emerged on the exact same northern shore to continue their journey. God did not lead them into the water to cross to the opposite side. Rather, this specific route was a deliberate diversionary tactic designed to draw the pursuing Egyptian army into the depths of the sea [חזקוני, רבנו בחיי].
