As the Israelites journey away from the Sinai desert, they travel through a series of encampments that carry multiple names. The sequence of these stops, continuing until their camp in Rithmah, closely mirrors the events recorded earlier in the Torah portion of Beha'alotcha.
The locations mentioned along this route often overlap in identity. There is broad agreement that the stop known as Kibroth-hattaavah is actually the same location as Kadesh Barnea [רבנו בחיי, אבן עזרא]. Furthermore, the names Rithmah, Paran, and Kadesh Barnea all refer to the exact same site. This specific location holds great historical weight, as it is the very place from which the spies were originally sent to scout the land [חזקוני].
