Numbers 4:31Sefaria

Moving the Tabernacle through the desert was a vast logistical undertaking that required precise organization. The heavy structural components, including the boards, bars, pillars, and sockets, formed the core framework of the sanctuary and demanded careful handling. To manage this complex task, a strict and predetermined system was established. Every individual received a clear, specific assignment, knowing exactly which piece they were responsible for and what their exact role was within the broader effort [מלבי״ם].

While the transport of these materials was highly organized, a clear distinction exists between the act of moving the parts and the actual labor involved. Because the heaviest structural pieces were ultimately loaded onto wagons for the journey, the physical carrying of the load along the way was not the primary source of exertion. Instead, the true challenge and hardest work took place before and after the journey. The immense effort required to carefully dismantle the Tabernacle and perfectly reassemble it at the next location constituted the main labor. The actual transport of the parts was only a secondary task compared to the heavy work of taking down and setting up the sacred structure [העמק דבר].
