Wisdom, representing the Torah, echoes an urgent call to humanity, urging people to abandon negative paths and attain true life [עמנואל הרומי, אמרי דעת]. This invitation is specifically directed at those who are spiritually incomplete, offering them a chance to repair themselves. The call reaches out to two distinct types of individuals: the simple and those lacking sense.
The simple individual is defined as someone who lacks basic wisdom [ביאור שטיינזלץ, עמנואל הרומי] or the foresight to gather spiritual provisions for himself [מצודת דוד]. Because he is entirely unaware of the principles of wisdom, he is easily misled [מלבי״ם]. However, his negative traits have not yet become permanent fixtures in his character, meaning there is still genuine hope that he can correct his ways [אבן עזרא]. Wisdom urges this person to turn away from his current standing and step toward her [אבן עזרא, מצודת דוד, עמנואל הרומי], so that he may learn, grow wise, and acquire discipline [רש״י, רלב״ג].
At the same time, the invitation is extended to the one lacking sense. The primary approach among commentators is that this refers to an individual missing intellect and understanding, who is in need of spiritual completion. However, a sharp distinction is drawn between this person and the simple one. While the simple individual makes mistakes out of pure ignorance, the one lacking sense actually knows the rules of wisdom. His failure lies in a lack of willpower and self-control, leaving him unable to conquer his urges and overcome his desires [מלבי״ם].
A deeper perspective suggests that this profound call does not only take place in the physical world. Instead, it serves as an early warning from the Holy Spirit to the human soul before it ever descends into the earthly realm. The Torah guides and teaches the soul prior to birth. Consequently, if a person ultimately chooses to live simply or without sense, chasing after worldly temptations, he will never be able to claim that he was not warned in advance by God and His Torah [אלשיך].
