Psalms 129:5Sefaria

The hope for historical justice naturally leads to a deep wish for the downfall of those who harbor lasting hostility toward the people of Israel and their heritage. The animosity described is not aimed at a physical location. In fact, the nations of the world often love the physical land and actively fight to claim it. Instead, the hatred is directed at the people themselves, specifically the nation and congregation of Israel Beyond the people, this hostility targets the very holiness of Israel, the presence of God, and the core faith they represent [מלבי״ם, מאירי]. The consequences for this animosity will reach not only those who carry out physical acts of harm, but even those who simply keep this hatred hidden in their hearts [אלשיך].

In the End of Days, these enemies will face profound embarrassment and shame This deep sense of disgrace will strike them the moment they witness the salvation of Israel and see the people successfully rescued from their grasp Furthermore, their shame will grow as they finally understand that they have no share or connection with God [מלבי״ם].

Overcome by this shame, the enemies will retreat and turn back [מצודת ציון]. This withdrawal is the natural reaction of a deeply embarrassed person who turns around and walks back the way they came [מצודת דוד]. In practical terms, this retreat means they will abandon their evil thoughts and drop their harmful plans [רד״ק, מאירי]. Ultimately, the punishments they receive from God will be the force that pushes them backward into full retreat [מלבי״ם].
