The eternal promise made to the Davidic dynasty rests upon a clear spiritual foundation, placing the observance of the covenant at the very center of the kingdom's survival. While the initial promise to crown David's immediate son was granted unconditionally due to David's own merit, the continuation of the monarchy for all future generations depends entirely on their faithfulness to the Torah and its Commandments [אלשיך, מלבי״ם].

A question arises regarding God's ongoing guidance of these future kings. Since the Torah and its Commandments were already given through Moses and no new laws will ever be added, what does it mean that He will teach them in the future? One approach explains that God will constantly inspire and guide the nation through the prophets, ensuring that the Torah is never forgotten [רד״ק, מצודת דוד]. Another perspective explains that the promise of instruction is actually meant in the past tense [מאירי], referring directly to the covenant and testimonies that He has already taught [אבן עזרא].

Ultimately, if these spiritual conditions are met, the result is an everlasting kingdom. The royal succession will not end with David's immediate children. Instead, their descendants will continue to sit upon the royal throne forever [אבן עזרא, מצודת דוד].
