A call to praise God encompasses all of society, reaching people across every stage of life. This invitation is viewed by some as a universal message directed toward the broad masses of every nation [מאירי]. Another perspective sees it as a specific message for the people of Israel, representing the fulfillment of the ultimate redemption. In this vision, people of all age groups will return to fill the streets of Jerusalem, uniting to praise God [אלשיך].

The summons first reaches the youth, bringing young men and young women together in worship. The specific inclusion of young women carries a unique emphasis. While young women might typically focus their attention on personal appearance and physical adornment, they will shift their focus entirely to praise God [רד״ק].

The old and the young are then brought together. This pairing highlights the natural changes a person experiences throughout life, reflecting the periods when human physical strength increases and when it eventually declines [אבן עזרא]. Furthermore, bringing the elderly and the young together establishes a vital relationship of guidance between the generations. Young children do not yet possess the maturity and understanding required to praise God properly on their own. Therefore, the elders stand beside them, directing and teaching the youth how to offer their praise [רד״ק].
