תהלים, פרק קמ״ח, פסוק י״ד

Psalms 148:14Sefaria

וַיָּ֤רֶם קֶ֨רֶן ׀ לְעַמּ֡וֹ תְּהִלָּ֤ה לְֽכׇל־חֲסִידָ֗יו לִבְנֵ֣י יִ֭שְׂרָאֵל עַ֥ם קְרֹב֗וֹ הַֽלְלוּ־יָֽהּ׃ {פ}

At the climax of universal praise, the focus shifts entirely from the cosmos and the nations of the world to the intimate bond between God and the Israelites. The ultimate purpose of all reality, and the highest expression of God's power, is revealed through His choice and redemption of this treasured nation [מאירי]. God elevates the power, kingship, and authority of His people. Drawing imagery from the animal kingdom, where a horn represents strength and triumph in battle [מצודת ציון], this elevation serves as a global display of God's might. He demonstrates this power to the entire world by gathering His people from exile and raising their status above all other nations [רד״ק, מצודת דוד]. On a deeper spiritual level, this ascent lifts the Israelites from the lower, material world up toward the holy mountain, bringing them to the peak of divine closeness [מלבי״ם].

This elevation brings glory to His devoted ones, a status belonging to the Israelites [אבן עזרא]. Perspectives vary on the exact nature of this devotion. It points to a future era of redemption where the entire nation, from the youngest to the oldest, will know God and rightfully earn the title of the pious [מאירי]. Alternatively, this devotion refers specifically to Torah scholars whose actions mirror God's own deeds, granting them a spiritual strength that even surpasses that of the ministering angels [אלשיך].

The profound connection between God and the Israelites is defined by an eternal bond [מאירי, ביאור שטיינזלץ], rooted in the idea that their very souls are a direct portion of God from above [אלשיך]. This relationship is uniquely mutual. The people are not merely close to God; God Himself acts as their close relative [אבן עזרא]. Ultimately, through this extraordinary intimacy and spiritual rise, the praise offered by these devoted followers merges perfectly with the heavenly praise introduced earlier, uniting heaven and earth in a shared call to praise God [מלבי״ם].
