The coalition of nations and kingdoms gathering to form an alliance continues to expand. Among these forces is Gebal, a small kingdom situated to the north of Israel [ביאור שטיינזלץ], driven by its local inhabitants, the Gebalites [רד״ק, אבן עזרא]. The alliance further swells as Ammon and Amalek join the ranks. They are accompanied by Philistia, the land of the Philistines, who unite with the inhabitants of Tyre [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

The integration of these various peoples into the military campaign serves a specific functional role. They act as the strong arm of the operation, functioning as a primary source of power and providing constant, ongoing support to the united front [אבן עזרא].
