The appearance of the heavenly creatures reflects their pure spiritual essence and the precise way they operate within the world, blending absolute stability with an intense, burning radiance. Their legs are perfectly straight, lacking joints or knees entirely. Because these are spiritual entities, they have no physical need to sit or rest [רש״י, מצודת דוד, מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Another perspective suggests that this straightness indicates their legs are perfectly parallel and aligned with one another [רש״י]. On a deeper level, these legs represent the way God governs the natural world. The absence of joints symbolizes a continuous, unbroken chain of cause and effect, operating directly and without any pause [מלבי״ם].

The base of their feet is completely round, resembling the foot of a calf [רש״י, מצודת דוד]. This specific shape is not random. It mirrors the constant, circular motion of the heavenly spheres, a cosmic rhythm that these creatures transmit down to the physical world below them [מלבי״ם].

These beings emit a fierce, glowing light, scattering sparks of fire in every direction [רש״י, מצודת דוד, רד״ק]. Their shine resembles highly refined and perfectly polished brass. However, the description of this brass also carries an underlying association with roasting and burning [רש״י]. This duality reveals a complex spiritual purpose. The glowing sparks descending into the material world are meant to cleanse it, burning away the impurity of the primordial serpent and bringing pure holiness. At the same time, the element of burning carries a harsh historical warning, pointing to the future role these heavenly creatures will play in bringing down the fire that will ultimately destroy the Temple [מלבי״ם].
