The time of destruction and the end of authority in the Land of Israel is fast approaching. The prophetic warning is directed at the entire land, reaching out to its very edges [רד״ק]. This final ruin will arrive very soon, bringing with it the fall of Jerusalem and the conclusion of Jewish rule in the region [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

As this era closes, the divine judgment that follows will be perfectly exact. God will evaluate the people precisely according to their behavior, delivering the exact consequences their actions deserve [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

There is a profound distinction between wrongs committed out of human weakness and those committed out of deliberate choice. Human nature often drives people to fail through sudden anger or physical desires, representing a momentary lapse. However, the judgment here focuses on the deep-seated traits of the soul that the people actively chose to cultivate. They acted with malice and contempt, embracing their destructive paths with their own free will rather than falling victim to passing weakness [מלבי״ם].

Because these offenses were committed willfully and with a stubborn heart, God will bring the full weight of their terrible actions back upon them.
