II Chronicles 29:35Sefaria

The renewal of the Temple service brought a sudden and immense workload of sacrifices. This massive influx of offerings created an urgent need for close cooperation between the priests and the Levites to ensure everything functioned properly.

The sheer volume of burnt offerings, which were consumed entirely by fire, required the attention of many priests [מלבי״ם]. At the same time, the priests were heavily occupied with the fats of the peace offerings and the libations, consisting of the flour and wine that accompanied the sacrifices [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. These vast numbers of burnt offerings were brought to the altar alongside the fats and libations [מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Another perspective suggests that the burnt offerings functioned as a broad category encompassing the fats and libations as well, since all of these elements were ultimately brought up onto the altar together [רלב״ג].

Because the actual acts of sacrificing and placing the animal parts on the altar were strictly reserved for the priests and could not be performed by the Levites [מלבי״ם], the priests quickly became overwhelmed by the demands of the service. To relieve this burden, the Levites stepped in to assist with the necessary preliminary preparations, such as removing the hides of the animals [מצודת דוד]. Through this vital assistance and the careful division of labor, the daily functions of the House of God were firmly established. From that moment onward, the Temple service was fully organized, grounded, and conducted exactly as it should be [מצודת ציון, מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].
