King Hezekiah began his rule over Jerusalem at the age of twenty-five, leading the kingdom for twenty-nine years [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. The historical account specifically traces his lineage through his mother, Aviyah the daughter of Zecharyahu, to give her special honor for saving his life. According to the tradition of the Sages, there was an attempt to burn the young Hezekiah as a sacrifice to idols. To protect him, his mother covered his body with a unique substance derived from a salamander, which provided immunity to flames. This act successfully prevented him from being burned, allowing him to survive and eventually take the throne [חומת אנך].
