II Chronicles 29:22Sefaria

The renewal of the Temple service is a moment of great significance, marked by both strict legal precision and deep emotion. As the sacrifices resume, the specific order and manner in which they are offered carry important meaning.

Typically, a sin offering is presented before a burnt offering. However, the sequence changes when addressing an unintentional sin committed by the entire community. In such cases, Jewish law requires the burnt offering to take precedence. Consequently, the cattle are slaughtered first, and the rams brought as voluntary offerings are also advanced in the order [מלבי״ם].

Following the slaughter, the priests actively receive the blood. This specific action establishes a foundational legal principle: receiving the blood is classified as an official Temple service. As such, it must be performed exclusively by active priests who are properly dressed in their official priestly garments [רלב״ג].

The priests then proceed to throw the collected blood onto the altar [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This act of throwing the blood is recorded three separate times, corresponding to each type of animal offered. This repetition is not accidental; it captures the overwhelming joy of those performing the service. After successfully purifying themselves and the Temple, and finally resuming the offerings to God, the repeated focus on throwing the blood serves as a special expression of gratitude. It highlights their deep appreciation for the renewed privilege of serving Him [חומת אנך].
