God responds to the king's sincere submission following the message regarding the future of the place and its inhabitants. The king experiences a softening of his heart, a state that is the exact opposite of stubbornness and emotional hardness [מצודת ציון]. His reaction goes beyond merely listening to the physical sound of the message. Instead, it captures the profound moment when he fully comprehends and internalizes the meaning of the divine sign sent by God [מצודת דוד].
