I Kings 16:22Sefaria

וַיֶּחֱזַ֤ק הָעָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אַחֲרֵ֣י עׇמְרִ֔י אֶת־הָעָ֕ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר אַחֲרֵ֖י תִּבְנִ֣י בֶן־גִּינַ֑ת וַיָּ֣מׇת תִּבְנִ֔י וַיִּמְלֹ֖ךְ עׇמְרִֽי׃ {פ}

A bitter struggle for the throne reaches its breaking point as a divided nation finally sees a victor emerge. The faction supporting Omri ultimately overcomes the followers of Tibni, bringing an end to the destructive civil war. The supporters of Omri steadily grew stronger than those who stood with Tibni [רד״ק]. This shift in power was driven by a combination of military success and political strategy. On the battlefield, Omri's camp achieved physical dominance and clear victories over their rivals [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Beyond the fighting, Omri secured a massive political advantage. His status surged after Asa, the king of Judah, arranged for Omri's daughter to marry his son Jehoshaphat, forging a highly prestigious alliance [רד״ק, חומת אנך].

With Omri's influence rising, Tibni's life and claim to the throne came to an end, though the exact circumstances of his death are viewed in different ways. He may have died naturally, a sudden passing that abruptly resolved the conflict and allowed Omri to take control [רד״ק]. Alternatively, Tibni might have been killed in action during the ongoing clashes between the two camps [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. However, the primary approach among commentators connects his death directly to his rival's political success. Once the people recognized the immense prestige Omri had gained through his new royal ties with Judah, they took matters into their own hands. The people themselves rose up and killed Tibni, permanently removing the opposition and clearing the path for Omri's absolute rule.
