The military campaign against the Ammonites covered a vast area and ended in a total victory. The Israelites launched a heavy attack across an entire region, starting at the city of Aroer and stretching to the area of Minnith. The path of the advance is framed as a direct address to a listener who is already familiar with the local roads and geography [מצודת דוד].

Within this large space stood twenty different cities, all of which were struck down by the Israelite army [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. The pursuit and the attacks continued until reaching Abel Keramim, a place whose name means the plain of vineyards [רש״י]. As a result of this severe military blow, the Ammonites suffered a complete defeat and were forced into total submission before the Israelites [מצודת ציון].
