The Israelite victory transitions from direct combat to a relentless pursuit, ensuring the complete destruction of the Canaanite forces. At this stage of the conflict, Barak no longer faces an active battle. Instead, his task focuses entirely on chasing down the fleeing enemy soldiers, which leads to the complete collapse of the opposing camp [מלבי״ם].

The devastation of the enemy army is absolute. The scale of the defeat is so vast that not even a single soldier from Sisera's camp survives the chase [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

However, while his army is being wiped out on the road to Harosheth Haggoyim, the commander Sisera abandons his troops and chooses a personal escape route. Seeking a safe haven, he flees to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite. His decision to hide there is based on an existing peace agreement between Heber the Kenite and the King of Hazor, the monarch whom Sisera serves. Because of this political alliance, Sisera feels secure, trusting that Jael will not betray him or hand him over to his enemies [צאינה וראינה].
