Leviticus 14:28Sefaria

The purification process for a person recovering from a spiritual skin affliction reaches its completion with the careful application of oil. This act directly mirrors an earlier step and serves as a final seal of purity. The priest takes oil and places it on the right earlobe, the right thumb, and the right big toe of the person being cleansed, exactly where blood was applied moments before.

The specific instruction regarding the oil in the priest's palm prompts different understandings among scholars. One approach suggests that if the original oil happens to spill, the priest simply brings new oil to complete the process. The application does not strictly require the leftover oil from the previous steps [העמק דבר]. Another perspective views the instruction as a strict guide for the order of events, ensuring that the priest sprinkles the oil before applying it directly to the person's body [רד״צ הופמן].

A critical detail in this process is the exact location for the oil. The priest is directed to place it specifically on the physical spot where the blood of the guilt offering was previously applied. The primary approach among commentators is that this requirement focuses entirely on the location on the body rather than the actual presence of the blood itself. If the blood has already been wiped away, the priest still applies the oil to those exact points. This raises a practical question regarding whether existing blood would act as an invalid barrier between the oil and the person's skin. The laws clarify that the blood is not considered a barrier, and the oil may be applied directly on top of it. Ultimately, the rule is absolute. The oil must be placed on the designated spots, regardless of whether the original blood has been wiped clean or remains on the skin
