Unlike the moon, which shares its rule over the night with the stars, the sun governs the day entirely on its own [אבן עזרא]. God established a specific, defined boundary for the sun to control, and it never crosses beyond its assigned limits [מצודת דוד]. This natural order is not a one-time event, but rather a permanent, ongoing kindness from God that never ceases [אבן עזרא, רד״ק].

Its exclusive control over the day is meant to inspire faith in humanity, just as Abraham recognized his Creator by observing the sun's movement.
