תהלים, פרק קל״ו, פסוק י״א

Psalms 136:11Sefaria

וַיּוֹצֵ֣א יִ֭שְׂרָאֵל מִתּוֹכָ֑ם כִּ֖י לְעוֹלָ֣ם חַסְדּֽוֹ׃

The rescue of the Israelites from Egypt stands as a vital moment calling for deep gratitude to God [מצודת דוד]. The primary approach among commentators is that the Israelites were simply extracted from among the Egyptian people. However, looking deeper into the nature of this event reveals a profound spiritual reality. The Israelites were completely embedded within Egyptian society, living as a nation fully absorbed into another. Because they were so deeply assimilated, they lacked the personal merit needed to earn their own freedom.

Due to their spiritual state, God intervened directly. He did not rely on a messenger to save them; He stepped in and rescued them Himself. This direct, personal action was absolutely necessary to pull the Israelites back from the brink of total destruction.

Ultimately, this rescue was an act of pure grace that went far beyond the demands of strict justice. Because the ongoing existence of the entire world depends on the survival of the Israelites, this undeserved favor was far more than a localized historical event. The kindness God showed in pulling them out of Egypt was, in fact, a foundational act of kindness that sustains the entire world forever [אלשיך].
