Entering the holy Temple is often viewed as a moment for seeking forgiveness, yet its purpose reaches much further. It serves as a public opportunity to express gratitude and to share God's greatness with the world. King David makes it clear that his deep desire to build the Temple was not driven by a need to bring sin offerings for the blood he shed during his many wars. Instead, his ambition was rooted in two entirely positive goals: to offer thanks for the blessings he had received, and to recount God's miracles to all the people gathered in that sacred space [אלשיך].

The act of thanksgiving is meant to be a loud, public declaration within the community of believers [רד״ק, מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. The primary goal of raising one's voice in this way is to thank God for His kindness and for delivering the individual from times of trouble [רד״ק, מאירי]. True gratitude is achieved when a person openly shares the personal miracles they have experienced, ensuring that others hear their story and come to recognize God's immense greatness [מלבי״ם]. This public declaration involves both ensuring the wonders are heard across the crowd and carefully recounting their specific details [אבן עזרא].

While the primary approach among commentators understands these wonders as personal acts of kindness and salvation, a broader perspective views the gratitude as an allusion to the recitation of Hallel, the traditional prayer of praise. In this light, the thanksgiving expands far beyond the individual to encompass the entirety of history. It includes the miracles of the past, the future war of Gog, the days of the Messiah, and the ultimate World to Come [רש״י].
