Psalms 62:2Sefaria

When facing hardships and distress, human nature often drives people to seek support from powerful and influential individuals. Against this common instinct, King David models a stance of absolute and exclusive trust in the Creator, waiting quietly for His rescue. This reliance is directed to God alone, entirely rejecting any dependence on flesh and blood, human leaders, or other earthly powers True security is never found in mortals, but solely in God

The posture of the soul in this state of trust is understood in two complementary ways. One perspective views it as a state of deep hope and active anticipation Another approach understands it quite literally as silence, listening, and a quiet spirit Together, these ideas paint a picture of a soul awaiting salvation through inner stillness and quiet expectation.

This profound silence also applies to the acceptance of suffering. The specific name used to describe God in this context represents the attribute of strict justice. When a person encounters hardships brought about by divine judgment, their soul remains still. They accept the decree with love, much like the silence of Aaron the High Priest [חומת אנך].

The foundation for this unwavering trust and quiet acceptance is the knowledge that salvation comes from Him alone [מאירי]. Even in moments when rescue appears to arrive through human hands, it is merely God orchestrating the deliverance, making Him the only true address for hope [אלשיך]. By recognizing that everything God does is ultimately for the good, a person is rewarded for accepting their struggles with love, eventually seeing how their very salvation blossoms from those difficult experiences [חומת אנך].
