Psalms 94:14Sefaria

Times of severe hardship and divine discipline often create a painful illusion of total abandonment. However, a profound promise ensures that God will never permanently forsake the Israelites This assurance comes as a direct response to the cries of the oppressed, who suffer while wicked forces crush the nation and afflict their land. Ultimately, God will step in to fight their battles and deliver them from the hands of those who cause them harm

This enduring guarantee remains fully active even through the darkest periods of exile. No matter how much time passes, God will not leave His nation stranded in foreign lands. A time of redemption is destined to arrive, bringing with it the gathering of the dispersed and the rebuilding of Jerusalem This unbreakable bond exists because the Israelites and the Land of Israel are God's very own portion and heritage [חומת אנך]. Furthermore, God's great name is intimately tied to the fate of His nation. He will protect them for the sake of His name, as any harm inflicted upon the Israelites is considered a direct strike against the perfection of God's name [אלשיך].

The relationship between God and the Israelites operates on two distinct levels, reflecting different degrees of connection and distance. As a nation, they may sometimes face temporary separation from God due to their wrongful actions. Yet, even in those moments, God will never forcefully and completely sever His ties with them. On a much deeper level, they are not just a nation but His eternal and holy heritage. Because of this sacred and permanent status, God will never truly leave them, not even in a slight or temporary manner [מלבי״ם].
