The King of Babylon experiences a vivid, symbolic prophecy during his sleep. He recognizes that the revelation originates from within his own mind as an intellectual sight, rather than an external physical event [ביאור שטיינזלץ, יוסף אבן יחיא]. However, this internal origin does not mean the dream is a mere illusion or a fleeting trick of the sleeping mind. Instead, the vision is exceptionally clear and tangible, appearing as though it is unfolding in actual reality [מלבי״ם].

At the heart of this dream is a tree situated in the center of the earth. The vision is highly dynamic, and the king witnesses the exact moment the tree sprouts and breaks through the soil [מלבי״ם]. Beyond this active growth, the central location of the tree holds deep symbolic weight. Planted right in the middle of the earth, the tree is equally distant from all directions. This perfectly mirrors the king's absolute authority, which extends evenly across the entire globe, indicating that all nations are destined to serve him [אלשיך]. As the vision progresses, the tree does not merely stand tall; the king watches a continuous process as it actively grows and stretches upward to an enormous height [מלבי״ם].
