יחזקאל, פרק כ״ג, פסוק מ״ו

A prophecy of doom presents the absolute punishment awaiting the wrongdoers, delivered through human forces acting as God's messengers. God instructs the prophet to declare that He Himself will bring a massive crowd against the sinners and hand them over to disaster [רד"ק, מצודת דוד]. This crowd is a large assembly of people [מצודת ציון, מצודת דוד], gathered with the defined purpose of ridding the world of the evil committed by these adulterers and murderers [מלבי"ם, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Following the invasion of this assembly, the sinners will be plunged into a state of severe terror, trembling, and horror [מצודת ציון, מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This deep fear will stem directly from the overwhelming intensity of the trouble that strikes them [מלבי"ם]. Finally, they will be given over to plunder and looting [מצודת ציון]. This loss of their possessions serves as a specific and fitting retribution for their sin of adultery [מלבי"ם].
