The Israelites who lived within the cities of Judah, as well as those residing in the surrounding areas, formed a distinct group that did not experience a shift in government.

For these local residents, royal authority remained completely unchanged. Rehoboam kept his position of power over them, continuing his rule exactly as he had in the past.
