Faced with the demands of the people, the king realizes he needs a pause to carefully consider the matter. Rather than reacting immediately, he decides to take time to think deeply about the issue before delivering his final response [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

He instructs the crowd to step back and wait for a period of three days, telling them to return to him only after this time has passed [מצודת דוד]. Although he does not explicitly order the crowd to leave his presence at that exact moment, his underlying meaning is clear. The expectation is that the people will disperse immediately and only gather again once the three days have fully concluded [מנחת שי בשם רבי יונה].
