God responds directly to Solomon's prayer, firmly establishing the newly built Temple as His chosen dwelling place. It becomes a location of supreme importance to Him, exactly as Solomon had requested [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. God's promise to place His name in the Temple forever represents a final, absolute decision. He will never again allow His Divine Presence to rest in any other location [מצודת דוד].
To express His deep connection to the site, God promises to keep His eyes and heart fixed upon it. This reflects His constant care and unbroken watchfulness over the Temple [מצודת דוד]. However, this profound commitment can also be understood as conditional. God's watchful presence will remain in the Temple only if His heart's desire is fulfilled within its walls. Ultimately, the Divine Presence will stay only as long as the Israelites actively perform God's will in that holy space [רש״י].
