The dedication of the Temple features a grand ceremony of thanksgiving marked by flawless order and harmony. Each group present, including the priests, the Levites, and the general public, assumes a highly specific role and physical position to create a unified expression of praise.

The priests and Levites stand exactly at their designated stations [מצודת דוד]. This precise arrangement follows the system established by King David, who organized the caretakers into twenty-four shifts, ensuring that each group serves during its appointed week [רש"י]. The primary duty of the Levites during this event is to offer thanks to God. They accomplish this by playing musical instruments and singing songs of gratitude that declare how God is good and how His kindness is eternal [רש"י, מצודת דוד].

A unique aspect of their performance involves the praise associated with King David. The primary approach among commentators is that this refers to the physical musical instruments themselves, which David originally crafted for the sanctuary, and which the Levites now hold. However, other perspectives suggest this refers to the actual content of the songs. In this view, the Levites sing the psalms composed by David, using the instruments in their hands to set the melody [רד"ק]. Another understanding is that the Levites physically hold written texts of David's songs, reading the lyrics directly from the pages as they sing [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Positioned directly across from the musical Levites are the priests [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Their responsibility is to sound the trumpets, fulfilling the original biblical command given to the sons of Aaron to blow these horns during sacred moments [רש"י]. Completing the scene is the broader assembly of Israelites, who remain respectfully standing on their feet throughout the ceremony, quietly absorbing the grand chorus of song and thanksgiving [מצודת דוד].
