Gehazi’s sudden pursuit quickly changes the atmosphere of the journey. As Naaman notices a man running after him, it immediately catches his attention. He understands that such a frantic chase must be driven by an urgent reason [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Reacting to the approaching figure, Naaman quickly lowers himself to speak. The primary approach among commentators is that he does not literally fall to the ground. Rather, the action describes him leaning out, bending, and tilting his body downward from his chariot toward Gehazi. A similar movement is used to describe Rebekah when she first sees Isaac and lowers herself from her camel [מצודת ציון].

Sensing that this sudden sprint points to a highly unusual event, Naaman asks if there is peace. His immediate concern is simply to find out if everything is alright [ביאור שטיינזלץ].
