Hope for a cure shifts from a young Israelite servant girl to the highest levels of the Aramean government. Upon learning of a healing prophet in Israel, the army commander immediately seeks state backing to pursue the opportunity. The primary approach among commentators is that the commander, Naaman, approaches the King of Aram to report this new information. However, there is an unspoken link in the chain of events. Naaman's wife is the one who initially hears the suggestion from the young girl. She then passes the proposal on to her husband, prompting his visit to the king [רד״ק, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

In his report, Naaman relays the girl's claim that there is a practical way to cure his leprosy [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. He does not merely offer a general summary of the proposed cure. Instead, he details several specific points and quotes the young girl's exact words. By paying close attention to her precise language, Naaman draws conclusions regarding the connection between his illness, the King of Israel, and the prophet who operates under the king's authority [מלבי״ם].

The purpose of Naaman's report is not simply to share personal news, but to initiate official action. His strategy succeeds, as the King of Aram steps in to help. The king sends an official diplomatic letter along with a heavy tribute to the King of Israel. This political move is based on the assumption that the King of Israel has a close relationship with the prophet. The Aramean king believes that a formal state request will compel the King of Israel to order the prophet to perform the miracle and heal his top military commander [אברבנאל].
