מלכים ב, פרק ה׳, פסוק כ״ז

II Kings 5:27Sefaria

The severe punishment of Gehazi brings the episode of his deception to an absolute close. The very disease that was cleansed from the Aramean general is transferred directly to Gehazi and his family. Elisha's decree carries a hidden weight, linking Gehazi's ill-gotten gains to his ultimate fate. The prophet essentially tells him that he may keep the money he took through deceit, but along with that wealth, he will also receive the terrible illness [רד״ק, מצודת דוד].

This affliction is not merely a new outbreak of sickness. It is the exact same leprosy that was previously removed from Naaman. The disease had been waiting for another person, and it now clings to Gehazi [חומת אנך].

Elisha declares that the curse will remain on Gehazi's offspring forever. However, this does not mean that every future generation will suffer from the illness. Rather, the curse applies specifically to Gehazi and the sons he already had at that time, condemning them to suffer from the incurable disease for the rest of their lives. His sons share in this harsh punishment because they were fully aware of his deceitful actions and were active partners in the sin [רד״ק].

As the encounter ends, Gehazi leaves Elisha's presence afflicted with leprosy as white as snow. This description reflects the physical reality of the disease, which is characterized by bright white spots on the skin [מצודת דוד].
