I Chronicles 23:8Sefaria

בְּנֵ֣י לַעְדָּ֗ן הָרֹ֧אשׁ יְחִיאֵ֛ל וְזֵתָ֥ם וְיוֹאֵ֖ל שְׁלֹשָֽׁה׃ {ס}

The genealogical records of the Levites map out the leadership structure of the families who served in the holy spaces. The lineage of Laadan highlights three primary leaders who guided their family. In the broader family tree, Laadan is actually Libni, the firstborn son of Gershon. The foremost leader and firstborn son of Laadan was Jehiel, who is also identified elsewhere in the records as Jahath [רד״ק]. He was joined in leadership by Zetham and Joel, making a total of three central leaders for this family line [ביאור שטיינזלץ, רד״ק].

Presenting Zetham and Joel as Jehiel's brothers creates a genealogical puzzle, as another historical record within the same book lists them as Jehiel's sons. To resolve this apparent contradiction, several explanations are offered [רד״ק]. It is possible that the record simply groups sons and grandsons together in a single list, a common practice in biblical genealogies. Alternatively, Jehiel may have chosen to name his own sons after his brothers. A third possibility suggests a slight omission in the later record; a missing conjunction might indicate that the text originally meant to list the sons of Jehiel alongside Zetham, showing that they operated together in their duties, rather than implying Zetham was his son.
