The revealing of the first king to the nation marks a major turning point, as his outward appearance immediately signals his readiness for his new role. Brought before the crowd, Saul steps into the public eye reluctantly, doing so only because he has no other choice [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

As he stands among the masses, his exceptional height instantly sets him apart, towering over everyone else from the shoulders up [רלב״ג, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Yet, this is more than just a physical trait. His tall stature reflects a distinct royal majesty that is clearly seen in his overall presence. This impressive appearance is entirely intentional, meant to show the public that God's choice is completely justified. His look alone proves that he is naturally worthy of greatness, and that no other person among the Israelites is as fit to be king [אברבנאל].
