שמואל א, פרק י׳, פסוק ד׳

I Samuel 10:4Sefaria

As Saul continues his journey, he is destined to encounter a group of men who will warmly greet him and offer him food. He is specifically instructed to accept this offering of bread directly from their hands [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

A practical question arises regarding the exact amount of food exchanged. The men give Saul two pieces of bread, yet they were previously described as carrying exactly three loaves. If they were to hand Saul and his servant two of these loaves, the three traveling men would be left with only a single loaf to share among themselves.

This inconsistency is resolved by recognizing a fundamental difference between large loaves of bread and smaller rolls. The man carrying the three large loaves was actually carrying smaller rolls as well. These smaller baked goods were simply left out of the initial description because the account focused entirely on the larger, more prominent items in their possession. Therefore, the food handed to Saul actually consists of two of these smaller rolls from their provisions, rather than the large loaves [רד״ק].
