I Samuel 2:12Sefaria

The painful gap between a righteous parent and corrupt children reveals a harsh reality: a spiritual environment and a good education at home do not guarantee good character. While other youths who grew up far from their parents managed to reach great heights in their service of God, the sons of the High Priest chose the exact opposite path. Despite growing up in the inner sanctum of holiness, they turned to a life of corruption [אלשיך].

Even though they were the children of a righteous judge and priest, they abandoned his ways and became entirely wicked men The primary approach among commentators is that they threw off the yoke of Heaven. Going even further, some explain that these men completely denied Divine providence, claiming there is no authority in Heaven at all

The root of their corruption was a fundamental refusal to know God. Their lack of spiritual understanding, absence of faith, and total lack of desire to follow His ways or fear Him directly fueled their terrible actions

This rejection of authority took the form of a severe betrayal of their priestly duties. Driven by lust and gluttony, they refused to be satisfied with the standard gifts the Torah provided for priests. Instead, they invented arbitrary new rules. Acting with arrogance, they would send their servants to violently take meat straight from the boiling pots of the visiting pilgrims using a special fork.

Beyond robbing the people, their greatest crime was the direct insult to Heaven. They demanded raw meat for roasting before the sacrificial fats were even offered on the altar to God. By placing their own private tables and empty stomachs ahead of God's table, they showed complete contempt for the holy service
