שמואל א, פרק ב׳, פסוק ב׳

I Samuel 2:2Sefaria

אֵין־קָד֥וֹשׁ כַּיהֹוָ֖ה כִּ֣י אֵ֣ין בִּלְתֶּ֑ךָ וְאֵ֥ין צ֖וּר כֵּאלֹהֵֽינוּ׃

Out of the profound experience of overcoming barrenness, a deep theological worldview emerges. At its core is the complex relationship between God's absolute, elevated nature and His direct involvement in the everyday details of the physical world. Certain philosophical views suggest that God is too holy and entirely removed from the material universe to watch over lowly human beings [מלבי״ם, אברבנאל]. However, unlike angels, who are also spiritual beings but strictly limited in their roles, God's holiness is absolute and entirely without rival [רלב״ג].

This supreme elevation does not distance God from the world. On the contrary, the entirety of existence is completely dependent on Him. No creature can survive for even a single moment without His constant will and life-sustaining energy [מלבי״ם, שטיינזלץ]. Since there is no other creator, helper, or source of salvation [מצודת ציון, מצודת דוד, שטיינזלץ], it becomes clear that God is the sole address to which one should direct their prayers [רד״ק].

God's unmatched strength and firmness are further revealed in His absolute control over the natural world [מצודת ציון, רד״ק, שטיינזלץ]. A human artist crafts a vessel, and once the work is finished, the object stands on its own. God, however, continuously sustains and shapes the universe. When He alters the laws of nature to perform a miracle, it does not mean there was a flaw in His original creation. Rather, it highlights His constant, active supervision over the world [מלבי״ם].

This continuous power is perfectly demonstrated in the personal miracle of a barren woman finally having a child. God has the ultimate strength to overturn the established order of nature [רד״ק, רלב״ג]. The key to bringing new life into the world rests exclusively in His hands, and He can rescue a person from their natural fate and predetermined destiny if they choose to walk in His ways [אהבת יהונתן]. Ultimately, God is the supreme artist. Unlike any human creator, He alone has the ability to form a masterpiece within a masterpiece, breathing life into a developing child hidden safely within its mother's womb [רש״י, אברבנאל, אהבת יהונתן].
