ירמיהו, פרק י״א, פסוק ג׳

The prophet is instructed to deliver a severe and unmistakable warning to the people regarding their commitment to the covenant. To convey the gravity of the situation, he uses the harsh language of a curse [מצודת ציון]. This severe message is directed specifically at individuals who intentionally refuse to listen and actively reject the warning [מצודת דוד].

The decision to use such intense language is deeply deliberate. The prophet is commanded to echo the exact style of the warnings originally delivered at Mount Sinai and the plains of Moab. The underlying purpose is to strike fear into the hearts of the people, with the ultimate hope that this emotional shock will awaken them and lead them to repent [רד״ק].

While this curse serves as a formal notice of impending punishment, it operates as a direct consequence of human choices. A person ultimately brings this harsh reality upon himself. By making the conscious decision to abandon the covenant, he directly causes God to withdraw and leave him [מלבי״ם].
