Job 21:24Sefaria

A life spent in total comfort and indulgence often leaves a visible mark on the human body. The picture painted is one of perfect physical vitality, health, and endless abundance, captured through vivid imagery of moisture and richness. The primary approach among commentators is that this physical health is most evident in the chest, which bursts with strength This bodily fullness is compared to a gathering vat where olives sit, allowing their rich oil to pool and swell before they are even pressed Building on this idea, the imagery serves as a general description of a person's overall plumpness, saturated fat, and natural moisture [רש״י]. Another perspective suggests this refers to the body's internal vessels that hold vital fluids, perhaps even a network of delicate strings filled with a clear, milk-like liquid [מלבי״ם].

Deep within the body, this vitality continues. Every single bone is packed with rich, fatty marrow [רלב״ג]. Rather than drying out over time, this marrow acts as though it is constantly watered and refreshed by a nourishing drink The deep marrow is directly sustained by that very same rich fluid flowing through the body, spreading vibrant life to every limb [רמב״ן].

All of this overflowing health is the direct result of a lifetime spent soaking in worldly pleasures Naturally, the aging process causes human bones to become hollow and dry, but for someone living in such unbroken comfort, the marrow remains entirely full and saturated [אלשיך]. Ultimately, it is a portrait of complete physical saturation, where the blessing of abundance fills every layer of the person—radiating from deep inside the bones and showing clearly on the outside [ביאור שטיינזלץ].
