Mapping the borders and counting the cities of a tribal inheritance can sometimes reveal a mathematical puzzle. In this account, the total number of locations listed along the boundary is noticeably higher than the final tally of twenty-two cities given at the end.

To resolve this difference in the count, the primary approach among commentators is that the final number only includes cities belonging exclusively to this specific tribe. The total of twenty-two is made up of three interior cities, namely Ummah, Aphek, and Rehob, which did not sit on the border, added to nineteen of the cities that were situated along the boundary line. The remaining locations mentioned during the mapping of the borders did not actually belong to this tribe at all. Instead, they were part of the neighboring tribe's territory.
