יהושע, פרק י״ט, פסוק ל״ג

Joshua 19:33Sefaria

The territory given to the tribe of Naphtali was formed from the remaining land reserves after the other tribes received their portions. This arrangement created a unique geographic strip along the Jordan River. The neighboring tribes to the west—Joseph, Benjamin, and Issachar—had eastern borders that stopped just short of the river. As a result, the entire strip of land running between their borders and the Jordan River fell to Naphtali.

The southern border of Naphtali's land is traced as it moved progressively from west to east [מצודת דוד]. Because the entire eastern edge of the territory naturally stretched along the full length of the Jordan River, the specific border stations listed serve to mark the western side of this area, starting from Heleph and ending at Lakkum [מלבי״ם].

Along this boundary, several specific landmarks help chart the route. One location is Alon in Zaanannim, a site that is also known from events recorded later in the Book of Judges [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Another key stop is the city of Jabneel. This city must be distinguished from another location with the exact same name situated in the territory of Judah. It is possible that the modern-day town of Yavne'el is located near the site of this ancient biblical city [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

The boundary line eventually concludes at the Jordan River. The river serves as the final endpoint, acting as the absolute eastern barrier for Naphtali's entire inheritance [מלבי״ם].
